Robert R. Stephenson Jr.

ROBERT R. STEPHENSON, JR. (Bobby) was born in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1973. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree in 1994, and received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1997. While in law school, Mr. Stephenson was a member of the Moot Court Board and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and is also licensed in Tennessee. Mr. Stephenson’s primary area of practice is insurance defense litigation.

Jones v. NL Industries, United States District Court, Civil Action No. 4:03cv229-M-B

Robert Stephenson and Bill Patterson defended this lead paint lawsuit brought on behalf of 14 minors seeking approximately $28,000,000 in itemized damages. After a three week trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defendants as to all plaintiffs. The district court thereafter denied the plaintiffs’ motion for new trial, and the Fifth Circuit affirmed the district court's decision in the opinion linked here.

Appellate Court Decisions:

Vede v. Delta Regional Medical Center, 933 So.2d 310 (Miss. 2006)

Mr. Stephenson and Carl Hagwood represented the defendant in this medical malpractice suit. The plaintiff claimed that the hospital’s negligence caused him to develop a decubitus ulcer. The trial court rendered a judgment for the defendant, and the Mississippi Court of Appeals affirmed. 

Ralph Walker, Inc. v. Gallagher, 926 So.2d 890 (Miss. 2006)

Mr. Stephenson represented the defendant, Ralph Walker, Inc. The Mississippi Supreme Court reversed the trial court’s denial of Ralph Walker, Inc.’s motion to dismiss, finding that the plaintiff’s claim was barred by the statute of limitations and was not saved by the relation back doctrine.

Bailey v. Wheatley Estates Corp., 829 So.2d 1278 (Miss. 2002)

Mr. Stephenson represented the defendant, Wheatley Estates Corp., and the Mississippi Court of Appeals affirmed summary judgment dismissing the lawsuit, holding that the defendant was not liable for alleged damages to adjoining property owner’s home caused by water run-off.
