Top Law Students Intern at WS&T

       Wilkins, Stephens & Tipton has an outstanding group of law students from both Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi participating in the intern program this year.

       "We are very proud of the interns who are working for us during the summer," said William A. Patterson, President of the Board of Directors. "All four rank at the top of their respective law school classes graduating in May of 2010 - they are all exceptional students."

       Interning during the 2nd half of the summer is Julianne Lofton of Jackson who recently finished as first runner-up in the national First Amendment Moot Court Competition in Nashville.

       A law student at Ole Miss, Ms. Lofton argued at the competition in front of panels that included 10 federal judges. The winner was Brigham Young University and involved teams from 35 schools including Boston College, Cornell, Virginia and William and Mary.

 

       Graduating Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in German from Ole Miss, Ms. Lofton was a member of the Croft Institute for International Studies, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and was the recipient of the Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant as well as a Croft Scholar Scholarship. She was also named in the University of Mississippi Who’s Who in 2007.

 

       Ole Miss law student Dean Sterling Kidd also interns the second half of the summer with WS&T. Ranking third in his class, he has also been actively involved in student government serving as a law school student body senator as well as attorney general and senator.

       A member of the Mississippi Law Journal, Mr. Kidd has been the recipient of the James O. Eastland Scholarship in Law, Outstanding Student Award and the Mississippi Corporate Counsel Association Scholarship in Law. A member of the Dean’s Leadership Council, Mr. Kidd also served as an instructor for the Academic Excellence Program.

       A summa cum laude Ole Miss graduate, Mr. Kidd was named to the Hall of Fame, was a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College and was a Taylor Medal recipient.

 

       Mississippi College law student Gene Taylor served as an intern for the 1st half of the summer. Ranked in the top 10 percent of his class, Mr. Taylor is a member of the Mississippi College Law Review and the Student Division of the Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association.

       Earning a spot on the Law School Dean’s List, Mr. Taylor was the recipient of an Academic Merit Scholarship and was also inducted into Phi Alpha Theta. He is currently serving as assistant to an M.C. Law School Professor teaching first year Civil Procedure students.

       Captain of the baseball team at Louisiana College in Pineville, Mr. Taylor was named Division III Baseball National Player of the Week and All-American for the Southwest Conference. As an undergraduate, he also received a Presidential Scholarship.

       Also, an intern for the 1st half of the summer was Ole Miss law student Christian L. Brown. Ranked in the top 15 percent of her class, Ms. Brown received the Outstanding Student in Criminal Law award and was also a member of the Mississippi Law Journal.

       She has been the recipient of the Winston Brownlee Prude Memorial Scholarship as well as the Law Merit Scholarship.

       A graduate of the University of Georgia, Ms. Brown received her Master of Public Administration with a 3.8 GPA. She also graduated Cum Laude with an undergraduate double major in Political Science and Criminal Justice.

       Last year, Ms. Brown was one of only 25 nationwide law students selected to participate in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps Summer Intern Program at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
